From Fire Chief Geoffrey Balton
Welcome to the Colma Fire Protection District. It is my honor and privilege to serve as Fire Chief of this proud organization, a role I have cherished since joining the District in 1983. For over four decades, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication, resilience, and spirit of service that define not only our department but the community we protect.
The Colma Fire Protection District was established in 1925 by a group of committed volunteers who recognized the need for local fire protection and answered the call with selflessness and courage. Their legacy remains the foundation upon which we continue to build. While much has changed in nearly a century—our equipment, our training, and the complexities of modern emergency response—our guiding principles of service, duty, and community remain steadfast.
Today, our department is staffed by an extraordinary group of men and women who bring professionalism, skill, and heart to every call. Whether responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, or public safety concerns, our team is ready 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their unwavering commitment ensures that the residents and businesses of Colma receive the highest level of protection and care.
As Fire Chief, I take great pride in fostering a culture of preparedness, innovation, and continuous improvement. We prioritize advanced training, modern equipment, and collaborative partnerships with neighboring agencies to ensure that our District remains ready to meet any challenge. Just as importantly, we emphasize community engagement—because fire prevention, safety education, and strong relationships with our residents are vital to reducing risk and saving lives.
